This 5 days course introduces the beginner to cruising and teaches personal safety, seamanship and basic helmsmanship to the level required to be a useful member of the crew on a yacht. There is no minimum age limitation.

During this 5 day course you will be taught pilotage, navigation, boat handling and seamanship up to the standards required to skipper a cruising yacht mainly by day in non-tidal waters. The RYA Day Skipper course will show you the difference between being crew and being the person in charge.

The course introduces the challenges and responsibilities of being in charge of a yacht and how to cope with common difficulties. It is the course that is in highest demand, and can be combined with a competent crew level course at the same time.

Minimum age to award a certificate is 16.

The RYA Coastal Skipper is an advanced sailing qualification from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). It prepares sailors to undertake longer coastal and offshore passages by developing their navigation, seamanship, and leadership skills.

The course is designed for experienced skippers who want to handle yachts in more challenging conditions, including night sailing and rough weather. It covers advanced pilotage, passage planning, boat handling, and emergency procedures.

The qualification is ideal for those looking to improve their confidence in coastal and offshore sailing before progressing to the RYA Yachtmaster level.

Exam preparation

The aim of this demanding course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Previous experience of 30 days at sea (2 of them as a skipper covering 800 miles and at least 12 hours at night) are required in order to be accepted on this course. Other pre-course requirements include a First Aid Certificate and an SRC (Short Range Certificate).

During this course our already experienced candidates will be trained on advanced passage planning by day and night in more demanding areas and weather conditions. All candidates are required to learn how to cope with emergencies and conduct the correct crew management. Boat handling skills under both sails or power is required to meet very high standards in order to be ready to deal with all circumstances. An independent examiner different from your instructor will test your skills after the course Syllabus.

Minimum age to award a certificate is 17.

Exam Preparation

The Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is internationally recognized and is a minimum legal requirement for seeking work in the industry. If you want to work in the charter business as a competent and reliable skipper, do long deliveries, or seek crew work on superyachts, this is the way to prove your skills.

The Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate is gained by examination conducted by RYA Yachtmaster Examiners who are independent from our Training Centre. This preparation course is for very experienced sailors who already hold a minimum of 2500 miles of seamanship (half of them in tidal waters) and at least 50 days at sea with 5 days as skipper day and night. These requirements are set in order to help ensure that you can enjoy and take full advantage of your preparation for the exams.

The exams have a minimum duration of 8-10 hours per candidate and are a real challengeof your skills and seamanship. Other pre-course requirements include a First Aid Certificate and an SRC (Short Range Certificate).

Minimum age to award a certificate is 18.

This 2 day RYA Practical Powerboat course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It includes close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvres, man overboard recovery, collision regulations and basic navigation.
